Composer / conductor /
performer Leo Marchildon is a rare musician possessing an eclectic
range of musical talents from composition for the stage and screen
to performing and conducting throughout the United States and Canada. He has been
one of "Bugs Bunny on Broadway" conductors, as well as its
principal pianist and music supervisor, since its inception in 1990.
In addition, he restored and orchestrated many of the cartoons heard
in the program, including "Corny Concerto" and
"Rhapsody Rabbit". As a conductor, Marchildon received
rave reviews for his millennial performance of "Bugs Bunny on
Broadway" at Roy Thompson Hall with members of the Toronto Symphony,
and in July, 2001 with the LA Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl,
and to standing ovations with the Utah Symphony in February, 2002. As a pianist, Marchildon has
performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic
(London), the San Francisco Symphony, among many other major
orchestras from the New Japan Philharmonic to the Kremlin Palace in
Moscow. Marchildon's professional keyboard credits include the
national and international companies of "Phantom of the
Opera", "Kiss of the Spider Woman", "Sunset
Boulevard" and Columbia Artists' tour of "Cole Porter's
100th Birthday Party" with Joe Harnell.
In addition to his work on stage
and in the concert hall, Marchildon has served as composer and music
editor for numerous films and TV series, including Gene
Roddenberry's "Andromeda", "The Adventures of Sinbad",
"Wexford", "Rainbow Fish", "The Seventh
Scroll", "Trial by Fire: A North of 60 Mystery",
"The Making of Hawkeye: The First Frontier", and the
feature film "Gabriela".
Marchildon is also a noted organist
and liturgical musician and is currently serving as music director
for St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Burbank, CA where he is in
charge of five separate choirs. Previous posts include Toronto's St.
Michael's' Choir School, Blessed Trinity Parish; as well as Los
Angeles' St. Bernard's and St. John Eudes, Chatsworth.
Marchildon received his performance
degrees (for piano, violin and organ) from Toronto's Royal
Conservatory of Music, the Royal Canadian College of Organists, and
the Western Conservatory of Music of London, Canada (where he was
awarded the Silver Medal for organ performance). He received his
undergraduate degree in Composition through the University of
Toronto, where he was awarded the Ben McPeek Composition Award, as
well as winning composition awards through Toronto's Kiwanis
Festival and Contemporary Showcase. He received his post-graduate
degree from the University of Southern California as a member of the
prestigious Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television Program.
Recordings include "Bugs Bunny
on Broadway" (for which he served as pianist), "Facing the
Dawn: Guided Meditations for Awakening the Sleeping Soul"
(composer), and "To Each is Given...Inspirational Poetry set to
music by Leo Marchildon".
